I'm interested in USB over IP functionality for some USB controlled equipment, but the manual for the 42890 says that it is for printers and storage only. Is there any problem with ignoring this restriction and using the equipment more generally?

Why's that? Is there no way to make it work for other stuff?

There are 2 types of software with the Server. One is specifically for Printers and the other for connecting storage. This is the way the product has been designed. I'm afraid there are far to many USB products to ensure compatibility or convert the data they send so that it can be transmitted over IP
