Lindy 51275 8 Port Serial PCI Device Detection Problem

I have a Lindy 51275 8-port serial PCI card, which used to work fine in my Windows 7 32-bit Home edition PC with an ASUS motherboard. I have recently tried installing it in two different machines running Windows 7 32-bit Home edition and in both cases the card is recognized under System Devices as a "PCI standard PCI-to-PCI bridge" When I try to update the device using the 51275 drivers the system fails to install them saying the current driver is the correct one and the drivers I'm trying to install may not be compatible with my 32-bit OS. I have uninstalled the device, rebooted, and had the system recognize the device again with no success. I thought maybe the card might be malfunctioning so I tried installing it in a 3rd machine running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit and on that machine the card was recognized right away as a Communications device allowing me to install the drivers off the CD in the 51275 folder. It immediately identified all 8 ports after the driver was installed.

I need to get this working on one of my two Windows 7 32-bit machines because the peripheral devices I have connected to the ports will only work on a 32-bit OS.

Hi Kevin,

That is a strange one, we've never seen that happen on our test machines.

What happens if you remove the device from device manager, remove the attached cables and reboot / re-install? Do you get the same problem?

Yes, I get the same problem. The reason why this started is I had to replace a motherboard with an exact make/model board because the onboard sound stopped working. But the issue is happening in two different machines running the same Windows 7 home edition.

Hi Kevin,

It sounds very odd if its the same motherboard.

Have you tried installing the drivers with the manual method rather than letting windows install it?

Have you also tried the drivers from the website?

Yes, I've tried the method you linked to. I've tried all .inf files under the 51275 directory on the driver CD as well as all of the folders from the downloaded driver off the website. In every case, I receive the following message "The folder you specified doesn't contain a compatible software driver for your device. If the folder contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work with Windows for 32-bit systems."
