I have an issue I hope is not too unique. Sony Bravia 55" linked to 2 different sources via switch...no. 32586 via VGA...due to cable length and ducting size.

I can connect pc but not laptop..new x-series sony vaio... Borrowed other laptops and all connect fine. Switch seems to be working well.

Connect Vaio and no signal at all. I think it's a power output issue from the ultra portables....question is ...I see an aux power port on switch (5v) if I plug in a 5v /500mA dc transformer into it...will it act as a signal booster for underpowered laptops ?

Hi Ryan,

Some cables and/or laptops do not provide power on pin9 for the switch to operate. When you use the Vaio do you get any lights on the switch?

I'd suggest trying a power adapter as this normally solves any issues with power over VGA. However it won't boost the signal any more or less.

There is no light on the switch when using the Vaio. I will try the power adaptor I have later this afternoon and get back to you. The Switch does not include amperage info. Is a 500mA 5v adaptor safe ?.

5V is fine, I don't have the specs on the amperage I'm afraid. We feel 500mA should be enough but I couldn't say 100%
